MALIGNANT TESTICULAR NEOPLASMS AND THEIR TREATMENT IN THE UROLOGY DEPARTMENT OF THE MEDICAL ACADEMY IN GDAŃSK IN THE YEARS 1975 THROUGH 1985

summary

In the period 1975 through 1985 in the Department of Urology Medical Aca­demy in Gdańsk 171 patients were treated for embryonal testicular tumours. In 44 cases the tumour was seminoma, in 127 cases it was non-seminoma. The pa­tients with non-seminoma tumours after diagnostic procedures and high inguinal hemiorchidectomy were referred for radiotherapy. In 117 cases follow-up was possible.

1.patients had stage T1-3NoMo tumours

2.patients had stage T1_4N1-2Mo tumours

27 patients had stage T1-4N3-4M0 tumours

19 patients had stage T1-4N1-4M0 tumours

117 patients

Out of these 117 patients with non-seminoma tumours 72 are alive from 3 months to 10 years after the operation without evidence of metastases (60.7%), and with metastases despite chemotherapy 10 other patiens are alive (about 8.5%). Thirty-four patients (about 30.0%) died from progressing neoplastic process. One patient died from complications of Chemiotherapy. The results of combined treat­ment in various stages of the disease and the present sugested schedule of treat­ment of non-seminomas are described.
