summary

A radioisotope method is described which makes possible localization and assessment of the degree of obstacle to urine passage in the upper part of the urinary tract. The obtained information facilitates decision taking with respect to the choice between surgery and outpatient follow-up. After demonstration of slow-ing down of the excretion of the administered marker (99 mTc DTPA) in dynamic renoscintigraphy furosemide was given intravenously 0.5 mg/kg b.w. The efficiency of marker elimination after the diuretic stimulus was assessed. A high usefulness of the method was demonstrated, particularly in the assessment of obstacles in the pyeloureteral junction.
