summary

The operations of Cohen or Glenn-Anderson without bladder drainage were carried out in 29 girls and 2 boys aged from 10 months to 11 years. In 3 girls and one boy it was necessary to insert a catheter through the urethra after the operation. In the remaining children no postoperative complications were observed. Late results of this treatment were good in all cases. In the light of these experiences it was found that bladder drainage after antireflux operation may be abandoned in girls with primary reflux in whom the condition of ureterovesi-costomy gave no rise to objections. Abandoning of bladder drainage eliminates the risk of urinary tract infection by bacteria present in hospital environment, facilitates the Control of infection existing before the operation, shortens the time of hospital stay of the children and rules out the discomfort caused by presence of indwelling catheter.
