summary

The concentration of four tracę metals, i.e., zinc, cadmium, copper and iron were
determined in undiseased prostate samples using atomie absorbtion spectrophotometry. Also,
mean levels of the above elernents were evaluated in prostate cancer and hypertophy. High
concentration of these tracę elernents was found in prostates tissue. The results obtained show
significant differences in zinc and cadmium levels between physiological and pathological
prostates. However, there were no statistically significant differences in copper and iron
concentrations either in sickness unaffected prostate, cancer or prostate hyperthrophy. This may
suggest that zinc and cadmium play a contributory role in prostate cancer.
