testis denervation morphological changes

summary

The investigations were performed in 25 inbred rats. The morphological appearance
of the endothelium of seminiferous tubules after unilateral and bilateral denervation
was investigated. The animals were divided into three groups. The first comprised
control, the second was subjected to unilateral, and the third to bilateral denervation.
The denervation was achieved by excision of the branches of testicular plexus at the
distance of about 5 mm along the testicular arteries as well as cutting of the ilioinguinalis
and geniotofemoralis nerves. After 30 days the animals were sacrificed by decapitation
and the testes were stained with haematoxylin-eosin according to Mallory, McManus
Hotchkiss, Feulgen and Einarson.
We demonstrated that after removal of the sympathetic innervation supplying this
gland, the degenerative changes in the seminiferous tubules were taking place. Hyperplasia
of the germinal epithelium cells was observed and the changes were more prominent
when bilateral denervation was done.
