summary
- The aim of this study is to analyse the frequency of the lichen sclerosus and atrophicus (LSA) as a cause of acquired phimosis.
- Material and method. Between 1986 and 2000, 81 patients underwent circumcision due to acquired phimosis. In all of them the removed skin was examined by pathologist.
- Results. In the highest group of patients (22 patients, e. g. 27.1%) LSA was diagnosed. Twenty-seven percent of them also had a stricture of external urethral orifice, and 31% were diabetics.
- Conclusions. In patients with acquired phimosis, the diagnosis of LSA should be considered. The monitoring of the urethral stricture is necessary.
