summary

The aim of this study is to analyse the frequency of the lichen sclerosus and atrophicus (LSA) as a cause of acquired phimosis.
Material and method. Between 1986 and 2000, 81 patients underwent circumcision due to acquired phimosis. In all of them the removed skin was examined by pathologist.
Results. In the highest group of patients (22 patients, e. g. 27.1%) LSA was diagnosed. Twenty-seven percent of them also had a stricture of external urethral orifice, and 31% were diabetics.
Conclusions. In patients with acquired phimosis, the diagnosis of LSA should be considered. The monitoring of the urethral stricture is necessary.
