summary

Urine diversion method after radical resection of the bladder because of cancer has been
presented. Rectal bladder walls are formed by upper part of rectum, distal sigmoideum and
detubularized part of 40 cm long of ileum. Ureters have been connected with a proximal part of
intestinum by Wallace I with formation of valve mechanism.
8 patients with infiltrating urinary bladder cancer have been operated. No major
post-operative complications have been observed. Follow-up was 5-22 months long. 3 patients
died because of the progress of the desease.
Other patients are well. They defecated 5-6 times a day, feeling no need to remove the
bowels at night. Control examinations carried on for 3-6 months after the operation revealed
improved kidney activity and narrowing of ureters. Except one case no contrast in the ileal graft
and ureters during x-ray examination has been noticed.
Recent results of the method have been considered incouraging.
