summary

In vitro activity of ofloxacin against 741 bacterial strains isolated from urine of haspitalized patients was compared with that of nalidixic acid, nitrofurantoin and co-trimoxazole.
Ofloxacin proved to be the most aietive drug against over 90,0°/o of isolated Staphylococci and Enterobacteriacae strains. Less sensitive were Pseudomonas aeruginosa (44,7°/o) and other nonfermentative Gram-negative bacilii (88,9%).
In general, ofloxacin was shown to be superior to nalidixic acid, nitrofurantoin and cotrimoxazole against Gram-negative rods, and equal to nitrofurantoin against Staphylococci.
