summary
- Primary male urethral carcinoma is an extremely rare condition. Approximately 650 similar cases were reported in English literature till the end of 2004. Diagnosis and treatment of this carcinoma is therefore based primarily on experiences of numerous authors with relatively few patients. Most of them have history of urethral stenosis in anamnesis. The most frequent symptoms they display include palpable tumor connected with urethra, low urinary tract symptoms, hematuria and perineal pain. What seems to be the most effective therapy in the case of organ confined urethral carcinoma is surgical treatment.
- The authors report a case of primary adenocarcinoma of a male bulbomembranous urethra with metastasis to the glans penis. After having had the metastasis cut off in another urology department, the patient underwent a surgery consisting in radical amputation of urethra together with prostate and neck of the bladder, as well as in urine diversion from the urethra through fistula created with the use of isolated intestinal loop that was formed in a manner ensuring continence. 12 months after the surgery the patient is in a good general condition, i.e. there are no signs of recurrence and he came back to work.
