SURGICAL TREATMENT OF REFLUX IN CASES OF DOUBLE URETER

summary

The results of surgical treatment of 98 children with reflux associated with double ureter are reported. In 71 children the double ureter was implanted in antireflux direction into the bladder, in 12 the lower renal segment was resected, together with the ureter draining it. In 5 children with coexistent ureterocele su­perior heminephroureterectomy was done and the ureter of the lower part of the kidney was reimplanted, in the remaining 10 cases ureterocele was excised and both branches of the double ureter were reimplanted into the bladder. Operative complications with stenosis of the ureter or recurrent reflux were observed in 7 cases after reimplantation of the double ureter. The results of the operations carried out in the remaining cases were favourable.
Methods of surgical treatment of the anomaly and criteria for selecting the most appropriate surgical method are discussed.
