bladder bladder neoplasms inverted papilloma
summary
- Inverted papilloma is a very rare neoplasm of the urinary tract. It appears mainly in
- the bladder, but also in the renal pelvis, ureter and urethra. As a rule, nwerted papilloma
- is recognized as a benign neoplasm, but some authors reported its malignant potential
- and coexistence with transitional bladder carcinoma.
- Material and methods. The group of 7 patients treated due to inverted papilloma of
- the bladder was analysed. Six of them were qualified to the operation with clinical
- diagnosis of bladder carcinoma, and one patient was operated on due to benign prostatic
- hypertrophy. Six patients underwent transurethral resection of the papilloma; in 1 patient
- the tumor was resected during transvesical adenomectomy.
- Results. Pathological examination revealed in all patients inverted papilloma of the
- bladder; in 1 of them it was directed to bladder carcinoma.
- During the mean follow up of 54,4 months we did not observe any recurrence of
- inverted papilloma in a group of 6 patients.
- Conclusions. 1. Inverted papilloma is very rare, but papillomatous character of the
- tumor localized in the bladder trigone or bladder neck may suggest the diagnosis. These
- clinical informations may be important forpathologist.
- 2. During the follow up of inverted papilloma patients the cystoscopic or ultra-
- sonographic control is indicated due to possibility of recurrence or malignant potential
- of the tumor.
