ILEAL ORTHOTOPIC NEOBLADDER IN WOMEN AFTER RADICAL CYSTECTOMY

summary

Objective. We report first, own experiences with ileal orthotopic bladder
in women.
Material and method. Since September 1995 to September 1996 10 women
44 to 73 years old have undergone radical nerve and urethral sparing
cystectomy and bladder substitution by Studer ileal bladder. Indications for
cystectomy was transitional cell carcinoma pTMaN0-2M0G2-3. After cystectomy
partialy resected anterior vaginal wall was specially duplicated (our
modification).
Results. The longest follow up is 16 months. 8 women are alive with out
evidence of disease and void per urethra without residual volume. 6 patients
achieved day and night continence. Pouche volume is from 280 to 400 cc,
reservoir pressure of 8 to 13 cc water. All patients accepted this method of
urinary reconstruction.
Conclusion. We believe that orthotopic ileal bladder will be the procedure
of choice in selected female like in male patients.
