summary

Objective: Treatment results of 33 women suffering from uretero-vaginal fistulas have been presented.

Material and methods: In the period of 1966-1999 in Urology Clinic Medical Academy in Lublin 33 women with uretero-vaginal fistula were treated. The diagnosis was made using: history, urography, cystoscopy examination, ascending pyelography and ureteral catherisation. All women were operated in different period of time, from 3 days to 3 months.

Results: In group of 33 women, 27 had one-side fistula and 4 bilateral fistulas. Two women additionaly had vesicovaginal fistulas. 32 patients have been completely cured, in 3 cases nephrectomy was performed. One patient died due to bilateral pneumonia.

Conclusion: The most frequent cause of the uretero-vaginal fistulas were gynecologic operations. The best results have been achieved in patients after early reconstruction of the urinary tract.
