summary

In a patient after many operations, with bilateral recurrent cast pelvic calculi and inactive right kidney during a successive operation on the left side massive bleeding developed from the whole surface of the decapsulate kidney after removal of the stone. When all other methods of controlling the haemorrhage failed the vascular pedicle of the kidney was closed by means of a soft clamp. This madę possible normalization of blood pressure and supplementing of blood loss. The clamp was cept on the pedicle for 75 minutes releasing the compression for 2 minutes at 15-minute intervals. After the last release of the clamp bleeding failed to return. Control examination after 2 years showed good functioning of the kidney.
