summary

A case of retroperitoneal abscess is described in a patient with xanthogranu-lomatous pyelonephritis. The course of the disease was atypical and on similar icports could have been found in the available literaturę. Because of diaghostic difficulties and progression of the disease the patient had two operations, and a permanent therapeutic effect was achived only after removal of the disseased kidney. The diagnosis was madę only after the operation.
