- Four cases of xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis were observed in women aged 38 to 67 years. In 3 cases the left kidney was affected and in one case the right kidney was involved.
- Clinical manifestations of the disease included in 3 cases painful englargement of one kidney, raised body temperaturę and coexistence of nephrolithiasis. In all cases bacteriuria was present with pyuria and proteinuria. E. coli was cultured from the urine and urography demonstrated inactive kidney. The diagnosis was established in all cases after histological examination of the removed kidneys. Surgical treatment was successful in all cases.
