summary
- Despite procedures consistent with guidelines for radical prostate cancer treatment by Urological Societies, certain patients still develop biochemical recurrence after operation. Biochemical recurrence does not always mean recurrence of the neoplasmatic disease (no recurrence in 25% of patients). There is no established agreement about the definition of biochemical recurrence after radical prostatectomy - threshold PSA value 0.2-0.6 ng/ml. Presence an active pathological lesion (local recurrence, lymph node metastasis, metastasis to bone or other organ) decides about further fate of the patient – finding a recurrence or metastasis determines treatment method. In Oncological Urology Department in Oncology Centre in Bydgoszcz following algorithm in case of biochemical recurrence in patients after radical prostatectomy is applied.
