summary

Introduction. Renal cancer is a serious problem in everyday urological practice. Basic way of RCC treatment is surgery.
The aim of the study. The aim of the study is to evaluate the influence of selected prognostic factors on survival of patients after surgery performed due to RCC.
Material and methods. The study group consists of 457 patients with RCC operated in Urological Ward of Military Hospital in Wroclaw. The mean patients' age was 60.2 years. The mean observation period was 79.9 months. 49.9% patients had stage I renal cancer; 24.8% - stage II; 13.1% - stage III and 12.1% -stage IV. 9.6% patients had renal cancer metastases. 156 patients had G1 tumors, 255- G2, 48 - G3. Selected prognostic factors as: staging, grading, tumor size, presence of nodal metastases or metastases to other organs were evaluated retrospectively and their influence on 2, 4, 8-years cancer specific survival and overall survival was analyzed.
Results. 2-, 4-, 8-years cancer specific survival after surgery was 74.3%, 64.5%, 52.8% respectively. Significant influence of staging, grading and tumor size on survival after surgery in analyzed periods was observed. Survival after surgery was significantly longer among patients with renal cancer confined to the kidney. Time of survival of patients with G3 RCC was significantly shorter then patients with G1 and G2 tumors. Significant difference in tumor size and survival was also found.
Conclusions. Treatment results of patients with RCC depend on grading, staging and tumor size. Surgical treatment is still effective and sufficient procedure among patients with RCC confined to the kidney and with low grade.
