summary

The article is based on a 2-year observation of 671 patients operated on benigne prostate hyperplasia. In 47 cases (7.0%) there was diagnosed carcinoma. The authors demonstrated a significant correlation between different sectioning techniąues. There were 3.8%r incidental carcinomas on routine sectioning and 1.1.6°/o on step-sectioning. In patients with incidental carcinoma repeat resection „second look TUR\" should be performed to avoid upstaging.
